An example of the beautiful native art of the Huichol people who reside in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico. The human skulls are cast resin, made in Mexico City & batches are taken to Puerto Vallarta, where the Huichol people pick them up. A coating of beeswax is applied & the skulls are hand-beaded in intricate patterns using a needle threaded with tiny beads. The beads are actually pressed one by one into the wax . Such Huichol beadwork can’t be in the sun or near any source of heat.
